The first ‘Don Bosco Road’ in Ireland

Posted February 25, 2015 by in Bicentenary, Don Bosco, Salesians

Over the years, Don Bosco has always been the inspiration of Salesian work in Pallaskenry. While the Agricultural College, Secondary School and Summer Camps have always had the imprint of Don Bosco, the external image of Saint John Bosco himself was seldom visible.

With the approach of the bicentenary of the saint’s birth in 2015, it was felt that Don Bosco’s image should have a higher profile. As new images of Don Bosco appeared around the campus, the local mayor, Cllr Kevin Sheahan, and a fellow councillor Emmett J. O’Brien, both Salesian Past Pupils, used their good offices to have the approach road to the Salesian College named Don Bosco Road. They were very pleased that the Saint’s profile should be heightened in this manner in the locality.
