As part of the 2015 bicentenary celebrations honouring the birth of Don Bosco, everyone in the Salesian College Pallaskenry was thrilled and very honoured to receive a visit from the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins on Tuesday 24 February.
After being formally greeted by the Principal Paddy O’Neill, the Provincial Fr Michael Casey S.D.B. and members of the Board of Management, the President was delighted to meet with representatives of our Student Council, our All-Ireland Champion hurlers and our award-winning students showcasing their B.T. Young Scientist of the Year projects.
President O’Higgins then visited the Art and Materials technology and Wood classrooms where he was very impressed with the projects on display showing the creativity of the students.
Prior to speaking to the whole school body in the school hall, a traditional group performed some beautiful renditions of well-known melodies.
In his speech President Higgins praised the contribution of the Salesian Congregation to education in Ireland and extolled the virtues of the preventative system. Before his departure Fr Michael Casey S.D.B presented the President O’Higgins with a book of Reflections Songs for the slow lane written by Fr Hugh O’Donnell, S.D.B.
It was a marvellous day for the school with a great sense of occasion and thoroughly enjoyed by one and all.
